Top 10 Ways to Go Green
Without Sacrificing Your Bling

10. Switch to a luxury hybrid.

The nation’s top luxury auto manufacturers now make hybrid luxury sedans. And until you pay off your current car, add fuel-saving gas tablets to your tank. Even if you’re one of the fortunate few whose lifestyle has not been severely altered by exorbitant gas prices, you’d still be reducing your carbon footprint by using less gas and reducing your CO2 emissions.

9. Use a green limousine company whenever your appointment or special occasion calls for car service.

8. Buy eco-luxury clothes made from natural fabrics like, wool, organic cotton and silk, or bamboo; or any of the newer eco-friendly synthetic (regenerated) fabrics like lyocell, Modal, and Ingeo.

Consider those fabrics for your furniture and window treatments as well. Natural fibers wear better and last longer are biodegradable. So after the second or third donation to the thrift store, they can still be used to fill auto seat cushions, which is where much fabric waste now goes when it’s not fit for shipment to developing countries.

7. Whenever you go shopping, carry an eco-friendly tote bag that matches your outfit.

That way, you reduce the amount of plastic bags in the landfills.
Envirosax are shopping bags that reflect your personal style and are sold in stylish sets of 5 to complement any outfit, season or mood.

6. When you eat out, ask your server for half portions if you’re one of those people who never finishes your entire meal.

That way, there’s no carry out container and no guilt days later when you would normally throw away the leftovers. Food makes up 30% of the waste waiting to biodegrade in U.S. landfills and produces methane gas 20 times more potent then CO2.

5. Buy a solar powered recharger and rechargeable batteries for all of your gadgets.

Now you can even buy a solar powered recharger for your iPod.

4. When you shop for groceries, buy 30% less food than you think you’ll need.

Studies show that Americans waste 30% of the food we buy – that includes consumers, restaurants and food service companies and corporate cafeterias. That food that goes into the landfills generates methane gas 20 times more potent than the CO² from our cars.

3. Before blow-drying or sitting under a bonnet-style dryer, blot your hair with a 100% cotton, waffle patterned (as opposed to terry cloth) dish towel!

That removes all excess water and cuts drying time in half. And if your hair is naturally curly (ethnic hair included) this method will keep hair from getting frizzy.

2. When you travel, buy carbon offsets for your air travel and rental car.   In fact, you don't have to wait until you travel; you can buy carbon offsets for the driving you do on the homefront.

Warning: carbon offsets are not a substitute for conservation;
they help fund major alternative energy projects and, in one sense, reward organizations for operating sustainably.

1. Invest in a Socially and Environmentally Responsible Investment Fund.

Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) makes up just over 10% of the $25 trillion U.S. investment marketplace. Studies show that returns are comparable to non-SRI funds and SRI assets increased nearly 18% over the last two years compared to a 3% increase in non—SRI assets.
